Grants Seminars

As part of our Grants research we recently attended one of these well know Nationwide seminars which always advertises on television when they are in town.

It went something like this:

Free seminar  (sounds good – price is right)

It is one big sales pitch that gets you all pumped up! Just telling you enough to keep your interests peaked.

Then for the last half hour or so they start working on your emotions. Telling you stuff like “ Well if your really serious about starting a business you need to sign up for our full weekend seminar.”  They’ve been telling you all these great stories for 8 hours (all fluff of course) and now they lay on the pressure and the guilt trip.

Here comes the kicker (are you sitting down) The price $1,000 Plus

So for research purposes we bit the bullet and reluctantly plopped down our money for the seminar.

The Weekend Seminar (2 days 8am to 5pm)

Day One:

The first day all they talked about was lease options for Real Estate? I had to check my ticket it states Grant seminar, the materials had the word written all over them yet he spent all but about a half an hour talking about Lease options. Hmmm?  Although at the end of the first day he did say the second day would cover Grants.

Day Two:

More on lease options? Just before lunch he states after lunch we will cover grants. O’boy!

He was right after lunch another 20 or 30 minutes on grants nothing specific just general info then back to lease options and general discussion.

But Wait There’s More! At the end of the second day another “If your Really Serious About your business Speech” you guessed it another seminar this one is a “Boot camp” (OOOooo).  Cost about $5.000 dollars: which we did not purchase.

Oh yes it doesn’t stop there after the seminar then the phone calls start where they pitch you everything under the sun. If we had purchase everything it would came close to $ (you really better sit down for this one)$20,000. Yes that’s is not a miss print $20k, and no guarantee you would get a grant or be successful, and did I mention most of this offer was focused on you guessed it “Real Estate”? Again I checked my ticket it did say Grant Conference

Don’t waste your money on those infomercial courses that can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Our Recommendation ” Save Your Money!”  Do not buy these books or attend these seminars that Charge you a fee. There are many public libraries, government and non-profit agencies that provide the same information for free!

If you feel you would still like to search for a grant for your Home–based business (click here) for various links. It is basically the same info as the seminar and we are not charging you anything for it.

One final note: Once you are in business you may be able to do a joint venture with one of theses agencies or non-profits to reap some of the rewards of the money that were made available to them. Example one company I know recently received a $15,000 grant from the state to train employees in lean manufacturing procedures.

P.S. Here is the link to the tool  that will help locate grants according to the criteria you select, It's pretty amazing and it's FREE!  www.grantgate.com
